3.2 Generals on greening in Machining and Forming
Transitioning from traditional manufacturing to green manufacturing involves adopting
environmentally friendly practices and technologies to minimize the environmental impact of
your manufacturing processes. Transitioning to green manufacturing is an ongoing process that
requires a company-wide commitment to sustainability. Next will be presented the main steps
for this transition. By systematically implementing these steps, you can make significant strides
towards reducing your environmental impact and fostering a more sustainable manufacturing.
1. Environmental Assessment:
• Conduct a thorough assessment of your manufacturing processes, including raw material
sourcing, energy consumption, water usage, waste generation, and emissions.
• Use environmental impact assessment tools and methodologies to quantify the
environmental footprint of your operations.
• Analyse the environmental data to identify areas with the most significant impact and
prioritize them for improvement.
2. Set Green Goals and Objectives:
• Define specific and measurable green manufacturing goals aligned with broader
sustainability targets.
• Consider adopting the SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-
bound) when setting these goals.
• Involve key stakeholders, including management, employees, and external partners, in the
goal-setting process.
3. Employee Awareness and Training:
• Conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions to raise awareness about the
importance of green manufacturing and sustainability.
• Engage employees in sustainability initiatives and encourage them to suggest innovative
ideas for improvement.
• Provide specialized training to employees directly involved in environmental management
and sustainability projects.
4. Resource Efficiency and Conservation:
