• Milling machines come in various types, each designed for specific applications:
 • Vertical Milling Machine: The spindle is oriented vertically, allowing for vertical and horizontal milling operations.
 • Horizontal Milling Machine: The spindle is oriented horizontally, suitable for primarily horizontal milling tasks.
 • Universal Milling Machine: Capable of performing both vertical and horizontal milling operations.
 • CNC Milling Machine: Automated milling machines controlled by computer numerical control (CNC), allowing for precise and repeatable
 machining processes.
 Milling is used for a wide range of purposes, including: Creating flat surfaces, slots, pockets, and keyways; Producing complex contours and profiles;
Making gears, threads, and splines; Creating moulds, dies, and prototypes; Precision machining for critical components.
Milling is essential in industries such as aerospace, automotive, tool and die manufacturing, and general machining, as it enables the creation of
intricate shapes and features with high accuracy and repeatability.
Drilling Drilling is a machining process used to create round holes in a workpiece using a rotating cutting tool called a drill bit. It is one of the most common
and essential machining operations, widely used in various industries for creating holes of different sizes and depths.
The drilling process involves the following steps:
 • Workpiece Setup: The workpiece is securely clamped to the drilling machine or a work-holding device, ensuring it remains stationary during
 the drilling operation.
 • Drill Bit Selection: The appropriate drill bit is chosen based on the material of the workpiece and the size and depth of the hole required. Drill
bits come in various designs, such as twist drills, centre drills, spot drills, and specialized drill bits for specific applications.
 • Positioning and Alignment: The drilling machine's spindle is positioned over the workpiece, and the drill bit is aligned accurately with the
desired location for the hole. (Source of image:

 • Coolant/Lubrication: During the drilling process, heat is generated due to the cutting action. To prevent overheating and extend tool life,
coolant or lubricant may be used to cool and lubricate the cutting zone.
Drilling can be performed using various types of drilling machines, including:
 • Bench Drills: Used for smaller and lighter workpieces, typically mounted on a bench or table.
 • Pillar Drills: More substantial and sturdier than bench drills, designed for larger workpieces and heavier drilling tasks.
 • Radial Drills: Capable of drilling holes in large workpieces that cannot be moved easily, as the drill head can be adjusted along a radial arm.
 • CNC Drilling Machines: Automated drilling machines controlled by computer numerical control (CNC) for precise and repetitive hole drilling in
 complex patterns.
Drilling is used in a wide range of industries, such as manufacturing, construction, automotive, aerospace, and electronics. It is essential for creating
holes for fasteners, bolts, shafts, and other components, as well as for adding features and functionalities to various products and structures.
Grinding Grinding is a material removal process that involves using an abrasive wheel or tool to remove excess material from a workpiece's surface. The
primary objective of grinding is to achieve a smooth and precise finish on the workpiece, improve its dimensional accuracy, and provide the desired
 shape or surface texture.
The grinding process typically involves the following steps:
 • Workpiece Setup: The workpiece, which can be made of metal, ceramic, glass, or other materials, is securely held in place using fixtures or
 clamps on a grinding machine.
 • Grinding Wheel Selection: An abrasive grinding wheel, composed of abrasive particles bonded together, is chosen based on the material being
worked on and the desired finish.
